There are two significantly different versions of Realsports Basketball for the Atari 5200. The version described on this page is very much different from what eventually became Realsports Basketball. Dated almost a year earlier than other Realsports Basketball prototypes, it makes no mention to the Realsports series anywhere in the game. The two prototypes are similar in some fashion (after all, they are both basketball games), but appear to be very different outside of that.
This earlier version of Realsports Basketball was started by one programmer, then taken over by Patrick Bass, who abandoned it to start work on a second version of the game. Matt Reichert discovered this early version of the game and has written up a detailed review of it over at AtariProtos.com. |
